The loss of Compton meant that the title lead was handed over to Donahue at Portland. The Pac West driver was the model of consistancy for the remainder of the season, taking the something driver to a well deserved driver title.

Teammate Dobson did not have such a good season, suffering technical difficulties with his PPG-liveried Stratus and getting involved in a number of on-track clashes, costing him valuable championship points. He ended the season in 4th place.

Another driver who found that consistancy was the best route to the top, was Peter Cunningham. His season started badly when he suffered electrical problems at round 1. This meant that he was always chasing the leaders for the title, and even though he only failed to reach the podium on two further occaisons, it was only good enough for runner up slot in the drivers title.

Reigning champion Pobst had a difficult season, suffering from a distinct lack of spare parts for his new BMW. This meant the team were unable to test as often as they would have liked and their performance suffered as a result. However, Pobst consolation was the Privateers title.

The NATCC had seen another season of close racing, but the grids had remained half empty and without more manufacturer support it was unlikely that the series would continue. The final "nail in the coffin" for the series came when Chrysler decided to withdraw, claiming that they had achieved all their goals in the series and wanted to find a new challenge elsewhere.

Chrysler had effectivly used the NATCC as a springboard into the more competitive European series, but after much romour about a deal to run the cars by the French Oreca team, they were never actually raced in Europe.
